Good Snake Food or frozen mice
Bought online by the bag, frozen mice can cost less per feeding than Good Snake Food at every size: a pinky from $0.37, an adult mouse from $0.79, plus shipping. Bought one or a few at a time in a pet store, a pinky costs $1.60 to $2.99, more than a Pinky piece at $1.00. Under the prices is what Good Snake Food changes: the freezer, the thawing, the dry ice and what happens if your snake will not eat it.

Good Snake Food suits a keeper with one or a few snakes who wants no rodents in the freezer, no thawing and no dry ice deliveries, and will pay more per feeding for that.
Frozen mice suit a keeper who feeds many snakes or large ones, has the freezer space, and buys by the bag to keep the cost per feeding down.
Frozen mice prices and terms as six online feeder suppliers and a national pet store chain published them on October 7, 2026, sale prices included, for packs of up to 100 mice. Prices change: check with a seller before you buy. Good Reptiles is not affiliated with any of them.

Will my snake switch from frozen mice?
Every order is covered by the 6 Feeding Acceptance Guarantee. Colubrids take to it most readily: most corn snakes, king snakes, milk snakes and hognose switch in 2 to 4 weeks. Pythons and boas vary: some need a gradual transition of 6 weeks or more, and some refuse it. The Transition Guide in every order takes it one feeding at a time.
“My snake has never had any food offered other than frozen mice. The first time using Good Reptiles snake food, I soaked it in hot water per directions, let it cool to a warm temp and my snake ate it without any issues.”
“These were super easy to use, much quicker than thawing rodents!”
“I'm so thankful I no longer need to keep 100 mice in our freezer.”
“Took a little scenting and coaxing, but we were happy to get our ball python eating some Good Reptile sausages.”
Reviews from goodreptiles.com, word for word.
Soak, serve warm, offer.

Soak
Put the pieces in a small cup of hot water for 30 to 60 seconds, until they are soft like thawed prey.

Serve warm
Offer while still warm. Many snakes respond better to prey near body temperature.

Offer
Use feeding tongs or drop the food in the enclosure, as you would a mouse.

The 6 Feeding Acceptance Guarantee
Reptiles can be picky, so the risk is shared. If your reptile does not accept the food after six separate feeding attempts, you can claim a refund of the product price.
- 1Make six feeding attempts within six weeks of the order arriving: about one a week.
- 2Film or photograph each attempt: the food, your reptile being offered it, and the refusal. Short videos are best; time-stamped photos work too.
- 3Email hello@goodreptiles.com within 7 days of the last attempt with your order number, the species and the six pieces of proof.
- 4Approved claims get the product price back to the original payment method in 5 to 10 business days. Shipping is not refunded.
Opened food cannot be returned; refunds are made through this guarantee. It covers orders placed on goodreptiles.com. A claim can be refused when the attempts are not clearly recorded, fewer than six are shown, or the food was not stored or used as directed.
How the switch works
Bring the new food in beside the feeder your snake knows. The Transition Guide in every order has the full plan. In outline:
Feedings 1 to 3
Rub a piece on the usual feeder, then offer both side by side, then a smaller feeder with a piece. The scent becomes familiar.
Feedings 4 to 6
Offer a piece on its own, scented with a thawed feeder, and use less scent each time it is taken. If it is refused, repeat the step before moving on.
What helps: serve it warm, offer at night with the lights low, or dip it in egg or broth.

Questions keepers ask
Is it cheaper than frozen mice?
Not against the cheaper frozen mice bought online by the bag. A hopper costs from $0.59 there, plus shipping, and the Medium piece that replaces it $1.33 to $2.50; an adult mouse takes 2 to 4 Medium pieces. A pinky bought in a pet store is the exception: $1.60 to $2.99 each, against $1.00 for a Pinky piece. What the price buys is no freezer, no thawing, no dry ice and no minimum order.
Do I have to give up frozen mice to switch?
No, and keep a few for the first weeks. The Transition Guide in every order brings the new food in beside the feeder your snake knows: a piece rubbed on a thawed mouse, then the two offered side by side, then a piece on its own, scented with a thawed feeder, with less scent each time it is taken.
Is there a minimum order?
No. One bag is an order: the Medium 10 count is $24.99 and the Pinky 50 count is $49.99. Nothing ships frozen, so there is no dry ice and no insulated box.
I buy frozen mice at a pet store. How does it compare?
At the national pet store chain whose prices are in the table, a frozen pinky costs $1.60 to $2.99 and a hopper $2.00 to $3.99. A Pinky piece is $1.00, and the Medium piece that replaces a hopper $1.33 to $2.50. Prices at other stores were not read. Good Snake Food comes to your door, dry, and keeps on a shelf until feeding day.
Is it big enough for my snake?
One Medium piece replaces a hopper mouse. An adult mouse takes 2 to 4 pieces, a rat pup 5 and a large rat pup 6. The size chart stops there (41 to 49 g) and gives no figure for bigger rats.
How many pieces does my snake need?
Match the feeder you use now. One Medium piece replaces a hopper mouse. An adult mouse takes 2 to 4 pieces. One Pinky piece replaces a pinky mouse. A fuzzy mouse takes 2, a hopper 3. The size guide on this page lists every feeder size.
What does shipping cost?
Shipping is $6 to $9 on orders under $70, shown before you pay. Orders that come to $70 or more after any discount ship free. Most orders are processed within 1 business day. We ship within the continental US.
Is there a discount on a first order?
Code 20OFFGC! takes 20% off a first order and is applied for you at checkout.
What if my snake refuses it?
Reptiles can be picky, so the risk is shared. If your reptile does not accept the food after six separate feeding attempts, you can claim a refund of the product price. The attempts have to be made within six weeks, each one filmed or photographed, and the claim sent within 7 days of the last. The product price is refunded on an approved claim; shipping is not. The steps are on this page, and the store's full policy is linked at the foot of it.
How do I prepare and store it?
Soak the pieces in hot water for 30 to 60 seconds until soft and serve warm, with tongs or left in the enclosure. Keep the pouch sealed in a cool, dry place; no freezer. Soaked food that is not eaten keeps in the fridge for 1 to 2 days.
What is it made of?
Beef, beef bone, tripe, mussel, liver, heart and kidney, with chia seeds, gelatin and egg, freeze-dried and fortified with vitamins and minerals. A small amount of plant material stands in for the stomach contents of whole prey. Formulated by Dr. Ellen Dierenfeld, PhD, with two veterinary advisors.
